FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can a host family apply for the au pair permit itself?

No. Only an au pair agency recognised by the IND can apply. The family and the au pair cannot.

How old can an au pair be?

At least 18 and not older than 25 when the application is filed.

How much pocket money does an au pair get?

At most €340 a month. The host family pays it – not paying is abuse.

Can the au pair permit be extended?

No. It is valid for at most one year. After that you need another permit, or you leave.

Can I be an au pair again later?

No. You can only come once – you must not have held a regular Dutch residence permit before.
